Professional area

With the aim of completing the training in areas as the management of traumatic hand-wrist, urgent and pre-programmed microsurgery (replantation, toes to hand transplant, lining) and wrist arthroscopy, both for residents and specialists, the Instituto de Cirugía Plástica y de la Mano Doctor Piñal y Asociados offers a Resident Training Programme. Since its first edition took place in 1998, more than a hundred Spanish and foreign visitors have participated in our training activities.

During the 2-month rotation period, the visitors (a max of 2) come with us in our patient-oriented activity, in 5 appointment sessions and 4 in the operating room on a weekly basis. This part will be completed each week with bibliographic and other work, in sessions ran by members of our team.

If you wish to apply for a rotation, please contact Dr. Carlos Thams, via e-mail drthams@drpinal.com. We strongly recommend you to submit your request for your 4th or 5th year of residency, and sufficiently in advance. Currently, there exists a more than 20 month waiting list. The rotation is reserved according to the order of application.

MR imaging findings in ulnar-sided wrist impaction syndromes.

Magn Reson Imaging Clin N Am 2004; 12:281-99, vi.
Abstract
Ulnar-sided wrist impaction syndromes are a common source of ulnar pain and limitation of motion. These conditions refer to a group of pathologic entities that result from repetitive or acute forced impaction between the distal ulna and ulnar carpus or distal radius and surrounding soft tissues. MR imaging allows earlier detection of the bone and soft-tissue lesions that are present in the different ulnar-sided wrist impaction syndromes and is helpful in formulating the extensive differential diagnosis in patients with ulnar wrist pain and limitation of motion.

Abstract
A case of avulsion of the distal posterior interosseous nerve during wrist arthroscopy is presented. Surgeons unaware of this entity may attribute persistent middorsal wrist pain to the underlying disease rather than to iatrogenic damage to the distal posterior interosseous nerve.
