Taking up the baton from the Spanish city of Santander, the Hungarian capital hosted last week the XVIIth edition of the annual meeting of the Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the hand (FESSH). During this meeting, considered the most important worldwide in the surgical and microsurgical approach of hand and wrist pathologies, the Spanish surgeon Francisco del Piñal was honored for his intellectual and material contribution to the training of upper limb surgeons in Europe, thanks to his support to organizations such as the European Wrist Arthroscopy Society (EWAS), the Spanish Society for Surgery of the Hand (SECMA) or FESSH itself.

The approximately 1500 participants and speakers present in Budapest developed their work through more than 70 scientific sessions, with more than 300 presentations of research articles and 17 technical training courses. This activity covered many of the key items of upper limb surgery and had as its leitmotiv the role of evidence-based data on surgery and hand therapy.

Besides the recognition received, Dr. Piñal participated as a speaker in several of the scheduled scientific-technical sessions, addressing the technique of four-corner arthrodesis in cases of SLAC wrist (scapholunate advanced collapse), the handling of malunions and bone loss in distal radius fractures and, finally, the arthroscopic treatment in the forementioned wrist fracture type.
