The Spanish surgeon maintained an intense agenda of conferences and technical presentations during the meeting in Buenos Aires.
The city of Buenos Aires hosted last week the 44th edition of the Argentine Congress of Surgery of the Hand, the main annual meeting of the Argentine Association for Surgery of the Hand and Reconstruction of the Upper Limb (Asociación Argentina de Cirugía de la Mano y Reconstructiva del Miembro Superior, AACM). Dr Francisco del Piñal, one of the three international guests in the panel of speakers, gave a lecture on his latest research on reflex sympathetic dystrophy or Sudeck’s atrophy and took part in the different thematic segments on the event agenda.
In the module dedicated to wrist fractures, the Spanish surgeon participated in the case analysis table and addressed the arthroscopic management of radius fractures, with special emphasis on the technique of dry arthroscopy and the internal fixation. On the other hand, in the segment dedicated to the phalanges and the IFP (proximal interphalangeal joint), Piñal presented the indications and limitations of endomedular treatment in phalangeal fractures.
Among the various axes of the agenda are also those of treatment of the wrist with post-traumatic arthrosis and reconstruction of the thumb. In the first one, the Spanish surgeon analyzed the partial arthrodesis assisted by arthroscopy, while in the second he presented several examples of reconstructive thumb surgery.
Finally, Piñal closed his participation in the meeting in the section dedicated to the distal radioulnar joint, during which he discussed the arthroscopic management for the improvement of supination losses, in addition to participating in the table dedicated to the analysis of this cases profile.
