The Hilton Convention Center in Buenos Aires hosted last week the 13th Triennial Congress of the International Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand (IFSSH). Between last Monday and Friday, more than thousand surgeons from around the world took part in an intensive program of lectures and activities, with a significant involvement of Dr. Francisco del Piñal through his eight presentations.

During the event, considered the world’s top scientific and medical meeting on the upper limb, Dr. Piñal addressed several hand and wrist pathologies through the prism of different surgical techniques. Thus, he tackled the arthroscopical management of distal radius fractures, the intramedullary fixation of fractures of the hand or the latest techniques in wrist surgery on arthritis cases.

In turn, the Spanish surgeon outlined some of his advances in microsurgery, specifically in the use of vascularized foot bone fragments in reconstructive surgery of the upper limb and the guidelines for toes to hand transfer in mangled hand contexts.

Buenos Aires has been the first South American city to host the triennial meeting of the IFSSH -coinciding this time with its 50th anniversary- and gives the baton to Berlin (May, 2019), which will do it with London that will host this congress in 2022.
