The capital city of the Indian state of Maharashtra hosts from tomorrow until Sunday the world’s largest event on reconstructive surgery

WSRM 2015

The Spanish surgeon Francisco del Piñal will take part tomorrow, as keynote speaker, at the 8th Congress of the World Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery. The meeting, the most important global event on this cutting-edge surgical specialty, runs until this Sunday in the Indian city of Mumbai.

Del Pinal will present their technical and research advances in  thumb reconstruction surgery. This is a part of his contribution to the microsurgical approach to injuries and defects of the upper limb, which place his clinic at the international forefront in this field.

During the last year, Del Piñal has participated as guest speaker at several international events of the highest level as the annual meeting of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand or the annual meeting of the Japanese Orthopaedic Association, where he became the first Spanish surgeon in participating as a guest lecturer.

CLINICAL EXAMPLE: HAND RECONSTRUCTION AFTER AMPUTATION TO THE WRIST

Antonio Fernández, Santander, 44, suffered the crushing amputation to the wrist of his left hand by an 80-ton press. Through the transferring of three toes -using a world pioneering technique- a functional structure was rebuilt on the scaphoids and radius from the stump.

Thanks to this tripod-like structure the patient can manipulate objects and face daily routines like using cutlery or driving.
