Dr. Francisco del Piñal starts today his participation in the international postgraduate course ‘Update in surgery of the hand, wrist and elbow‘. The meeting is organized by the Chilean Los Condes Clinic, sponsored by the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Chile and the Ministry of Health of the Andean country.
Del Piñal takes part as the only foreign teacher invited, along with professor of orthopedic surgery at Stanford University (USA), Dr. Jeffrey Yao. During the two-day duration of the course, the Spanish surgeon will develop a busy schedule of presentations and specialized panels.
Thereby, Del Piñal will start his teaching activity at 9.45 local time (15.45 in Spain) with a first day focused on the characteristics and clinical approach to distal radius fractures. In this line, he will be addressing the arthroscopic treatment of distal radius fractures, will participate in a technical panel in this regard, and –finally– will present the conference ‘Arthroscopic Management of the aftermath of a distal radius fracture. Carpal instability, osteotomy in mal union and osteochondral graft ‘.
During the evening segment, Del Piñal participation will veer towards the scaphoids, exposing the possibilities of free vascularized graft medial femoral condyle in their treatment, and other matters related to fractures of this wrist bone.
Besides, on Friday’s closing sessions, Dr. Del Piñal will address, among other items, several aspects related to situations of trauma and reconstructive surgery. Among them: the transfer of toe in minor trauma of the fingers, the crushing and free flaps of the hand or the trapezometacarpal reconstruction with transfer of the second metatarsophalangeal joint.
