In this third entry of his series on the problems of differentiation and formation in the hand of the newborn (congenital malformations), Dr Piñal approaches pathologies such as syndactyly, duplication of the thumb, cleft hand or symbrachydactyly from real cases.
The congenital differences of the hand include various pathologies or combinations of them, characterized by the functional and aesthetic impact on the newborn, as well as in their later life if they are not treated. Two broad categories can be established in these malformations: deficiencies of differentiation (such as syndactyly) or formation (cleft hand cases, for example). congenital differences
Dr Piñal and his surgical unit have successfully faced numerous cases of this profile, through a mix of microsurgery techniques, trauma surgery and plastic surgery. Thus, the Spanish surgeon analyzes in this new video some of the differences with higher prevalence such as syndactyly, duplication of the thumb, cleft hand and simbrachydactyly at its different levels, from the syndrome of the short fingers (brachydactyly) to their lack thereof.
