The city of Berlin picked up the baton from Buenos Aires in hosting the Triennial Congress of the International Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand (IFSSH) last week. Under the slogan ‘Building bridges – together hand in hand’, this 14th edition of the most important meeting on upper limb surgery on a global scale brought together nearly 4,000 doctors from around the world for five days at the Berliner CityCube.

The program of this world congress addressed the state of the art and the main items of interest in hand surgery, in addition to hosting conferences of international experts, technical workshops and training courses.

Dr. Piñal was the only Spanish specialist in the International Scientific Committee of the event, made up of 27 doctors from 21 nations. In turn, he took part as a teacher in three of the main congress training actions, related to radius fractures, ulnar fractures and intra-articular malunions.

All this in an intense agenda in which there was also place for the analysis of the limits of the current reimplantation surgery, the role of hand surgery in humanitarian aid operations, the innovation in prosthetics of the upper extremity and the malunions in scaphoid fractures, among other aspects.

London, and more specifically the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in Westminster, will host the 2022 edition of this international triennial meeting.
