A delegation of the Japanese Society for Surgery of the Hand, composed of four heads of area of different Japanese hospitals, made a technical visit this past week to the clinics of Dr. Piñal in Santander and Madrid.
The surgeons Matsumoto, Chief of Hand section, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Kurashiki Central Hospital (Okayama); Ishiko, Chief, Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Otsu Red Cross Hospital (Kyoto); Yamawaki, Chief, Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Fukui Red Cross Hospital (Osaka) and Ikeguchi, Chief of Hand section, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Kyoto University Hospital, attended various surgeries and examined firsthand the model of patient care of Dr. Piñal.
The Spanish surgeon maintains an active program of technical-training visits of residents and specialists in which several hundreds of doctors from all over the world have participated.
Born in Santander, northern Spain, in 1960, Dr Francisco del Piñal is considered one of the world’s best hand surgeons. His contributions in the fields of microsurgical toe to hand transfer or arthroscopic surgery techniques on wrist fractures are endorsed and used internationally.
