“Many of the pathologies and surgical techniques treated at the clinic of Dr. Del Piñal aren’t easy to find in other places”.

Dr. María Luisa Manzares, fourth-year resident (MIR-4) in plastic surgery at La Paz University Hospital (Madrid, Spain), participant in the training programme of Dr. Del Pinal from December 2015 to February 2016.

Why did you choose the training program of Dr. Del Piñal?

It was during my period of free rotation and I had been told highly of this program. The pathology of the hand, as well as limb reconstructions are very interesting and useful in the practice of my specialty. In addition, many of the pathologies and surgical techniques treated here are hard to find elsewhere with such an amount.

How would you describe your experience from a professional point of view ?

Very positive. I think that the organization of the activity of consultations, operating rooms and sessions is very instructional. Tracking surgeries on screens, access to imaging and the ability to view the cures of patients after interventions make attractive the everyday, and learning is enhanced. I think many of the techniques, details of the cures, management of pathologies, of patients and situations will be useful in professional practice.

Being with other specialists (orthopedists and or plastic surgeons) from other countries and
ours, the exchange of experiences and reinforcing other languages learning are
rewarding.

Santander, personal impressions of the city, places not to miss, tips for new residents…

It is a manageable city and everything is close, it’s easy to adapt and liveable. Not to be missed? …sports on the beach (and the gym), walks through Mataleñas, the lighthouse and the coast to La Maruca, the view from the Palacio de la Magdalena and regattas at the Bay. I would not fail to visit nearby places like Liencres, Santillana del Mar, Comillas, Bilbao, San Sebastian…

For new residents … enjoy, leverage and “submerge” yourselves during your stay over there, also be open to other treatment options, procedures and handling of situations.

Anything else?

Thank each and every one of the team members for their effort to integrate us in the daily activity and for making us learn on a personal and professional level.
