Dr. Francisco Piñal leads an international meeting that reinforces his role as a global reference in neuropathic pain surgery and drives key advances in its treatment

Madrid became the world capital of pain research and treatment on March 19 and 20 with the celebration of the international congress PAIN 2026 – Summit on Surgery for Neuropathic Pain, a meeting that brought together some of the world’s leading specialists in this field.

The sessions gathered plastic surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to deepen knowledge of chronic pain and advance its treatment through innovative techniques.

In addition, some of the most complex conditions were addressed, such as neuromas, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), and nerve compressions, as well as cases of chronic pain of unknown origin. The sessions included everything from advanced surgeries to nerve stimulation techniques and ultrasound-guided blocks, along with clinical debates involving attendees.

One of the most notable aspects was the multidisciplinary approach of the meeting, which highlighted the growing role of surgery in pain treatment, especially in patients who for years had found no solution to their condition.

The congress was led by Dr. Francisco Piñal, Head of the Hand Surgery and Microsurgery Department at Hospital Universitario La Luz, considered one of the leading international authorities in hand surgery and neuropathic pain treatment. Recognized for his scientific and surgical career, Dr. Piñal has been a pioneer in the development of innovative techniques and is a global reference in the management of complex peripheral nervous system conditions.

The congress succeeded in bringing together leading pain specialists worldwide, consolidating Madrid as a key meeting point for knowledge exchange and updates on the most advanced techniques.
