Dr. Francisco Piñal, a leading hand surgery specialist, gave the keynote lecture at the joint Ibero-American and Portuguese Society of Hand Surgery Congress, held from 3 to 6 October in Coimbra. During this event, he presented his definitive results on Sudeck’s disease or reflex sympathetic dystrophy in the prestigious Journal of Hand Surgery in the USA.

In his keynote talk entitled ‘Microsurgery in Severe Hand Injuries’, Dr Piñal shared valuable insights into the treatment of complex injuries, cementing his reputation as a leader in the field. His work promises to revolutionise the management of Sudeck’s disease, offering new hope to patients and improving their quality of life.

The XXVIII Portuguese Congress of Hand Surgery and the XIV Ibero-Latin American Congress of Hand Surgery is the result of the joint work of the Portuguese Society of Hand Surgery and the Ibero-Latin American Hand Surgery Group (ILA), with the participation of the German Society of Hand Surgery (DGH) as guest society.

The congress was an academic and scientific meeting point, with high-quality presentations and debates that addressed the most recent innovations in hand surgery, in tribute to the pioneers of the area. This event offered a unique opportunity to deepen knowledge and improve clinical practices.
