Dr Francisco Piñal, a world leader in hand, wrist and microsurgery, participated as a speaker at the SGH/SGHR 2025 Congress, held in Lugano (Switzerland), one of the most prominent scientific meetings in this field in Europe.

The event, organised by the Swiss Society for Hand Surgery (SGH) and the Swiss Society for Hand Rehabilitation (SGHR), brought together world-renowned experts to discuss the latest advances and future challenges in hand surgery and therapy.
Over two intensive days, the scientific programme addressed key issues for the future of the specialty, including:

• Arthroscopy in hand and wrist traumatology
• Update on Kienböck’s disease
• Scapholunate ligament reconstruction: evidence vs. eminence
• ‘Unusual’ peripheral nerve compression syndromes
• Artificial intelligence and new technologies applied to surgery and rehabilitation
• Pre-conference dedicated to the CMC-1 joint and its new therapeutic standards

Dr Francisco Piñal was invited to present his experience and results in two areas of particular clinical relevance:
1. Irritative carpal tunnel syndrome
Dr. Piñal presented new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for cases of atypical carpal tunnel syndrome, characterised by persistent irritation or refractory symptoms. His participation provided an evidence-based surgical perspective based on his team’s case studies.

2. Arthroscopy in radius fractures
In his second presentation, he outlined the advantages of wrist arthroscopy in the advanced treatment of radius fractures, highlighting the precision of reduction, direct assessment of cartilage and detection of associated injuries. His contribution was particularly appreciated for its innovative approach and practical applicability.

The 2025 edition of the SGH/SGHR Congress reinforced the role of international collaboration as a driver of progress in hand surgery. Dr Piñal’s participation underlines his commitment to surgical excellence, continuing education and the dissemination of knowledge in highly specialised fields.
