The renowned hand and wrist surgeon Dr Francisco Piñal participated as a guest of the organisers of the 45th SICOT 2025 World Congress of Orthopaedics, which was held from 3 to 5 September at the IFEMA Exhibition Centre in Madrid, one of the most important international events in the field of orthopaedics and traumatology, which brought together thousands of specialists from more than 110 countries.
During his participation in the congress, Dr. Piñal gave three lectures of great scientific interest:
• Reconstruction of complex hand defects.
• Advances in wrist arthroscopy.
• Median nerve irritation syndrome.
His participation stood out due to his vast surgical experience, with thousands of operations performed and an annual average of more than 250 minimally invasive surgeries.
Dr. Piñal was also a world pioneer in describing and applying the dry arthroscopy technique, a procedure that eliminated the need to inject fluids into the affected area and is now internationally recognised as the most appropriate for the treatment of complex wrist cases.
Among the main advantages of arthroscopy over conventional surgery, the specialist highlighted three: reduced risk for the patient, improved functional recovery and a quick return to daily life.
Dr. Piñal’s presence at SICOT 2025 reinforced the role of minimally invasive surgery as a global benchmark in orthopaedics and traumatology, consolidating Madrid as a scientific epicentre during this international congress.
