Italian rider Michelle Cervellin, European motocross champion and three-time winner in the MX2 class, has overcome a long medical nightmare thanks to the intervention of Dr. Francisco Piñal, a world reference in wrist surgery.

After suffering multiple wrist injuries that forced him to retire prematurely from competition, Cervellin went through an ordeal of nine failed operations that failed to alleviate his pain or restore his functionality. The situation changed dramatically when he went to Dr Piñal, who performed a partial wrist arthrodesis, an advanced microsurgical technique that preserved some mobility while eliminating the disabling pain.

Three months after the operation, the rider claims to be pain-free and with the firm intention of getting back on a motorbike, his great passion.

Dr. Del Piñal and his diagnostic-surgical unit are internationally renowned for successfully tackling complex wrist pathologies, from radius and scaphoid fractures to osteoarthritis, tendonitis, ligament injuries and nerve conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome. His contribution to the field includes innovative surgical techniques, such as dry arthroscopy or SLAC four-corner wrist arthrodesis, now used worldwide.

Michelle Cervellin’s case is an example of the transformative impact that specialised surgery can have on the life of an elite athlete.
