Dr. Piñal, considered one of the world’s leading experts in minimally invasive techniques for wrist and hand injuries.
Dr. Francisco Piñal’s participation in the XII Russian Congress of the Society of Hand Surgeons did not go unnoticed. His lecture entitled ‘Malunions of intra-articular fractures. What to do?’ generated considerable interest among specialists, focusing on one of his most internationally recognised areas: arthroscopy applied to catastrophic hand surgery.
Dr. Piñal, considered one of the world’s leading experts in minimally invasive techniques for wrist and hand injuries, shared with the audience his accumulated experience after thousands of arthroscopic interventions. Particularly noteworthy was his explanation of dry arthroscopy, a pioneering technique that he himself described and applied for the first time worldwide. This modality has revolutionised the approach to complex cases by avoiding the injection of fluids into the joint, improving visibility and reducing the risk of complications.
During his speech, Dr. Piñal underlined the advantages of arthroscopy over open surgery: greater safety for the patient, less aesthetic impact and faster recovery, which are decisive factors in both conventional patients and elite athletes.
The application of this technique in poorly consolidated joint fractures (malunions) was the focus of his presentation. Using clinical examples and scientific evidence, the Spanish surgeon showed how arthroscopy makes it possible to accurately diagnose injuries that other tests such as MRI or CT scans can miss, and to treat them effectively and minimally invasively.
The audience, made up of experts from Europe and Asia, was very receptive to his proposals and his innovative surgical approach, consolidating Dr. Piñal once again as an essential reference in hand surgery worldwide.
