Considered one of the best hand surgeons in the world, Dr Francisco Piñal has pioneered techniques that are now routinely used in international centres, such as microsurgical transfer of toes to the hand and arthroscopic techniques for the treatment of wrist fractures. His innovations have contributed decisively to improving the functionality and quality of life of thousands of patients around the world.
During the congress, the Romanian Society of Hand Surgery awarded Dr Piñal the distinction of Honorary Member in recognition of his outstanding career and his contribution to the development of hand surgery at an international level. The award was presented by Dr Daniel Vîlcioiu, president of the society, who highlighted the Spanish specialist’s influence on the evolution of modern reconstructive microsurgery.
