David, a young Cantabrian, 37 years old, with quadriplegia – C5 level injuries in the spinal cord – after a hit in the head trying to dive into: “I had neither mobility nor strength in my hands; now, I put my tube, I eat, shower and dress on my own and I can drive”

After the initial trauma, the patient’s lesion evolves into a C6-C7 clinical picture. After going through several centers and receiving unfavorable diagnosis regarding the recovery of some personal autonomy, his case reached the clinic of Dr. Piñal.

The Cantabrian surgeon and his surgical unit performed a 2-phased procedure in both hands with different techniques of microsurgery oriented to the treatment of nerve injuries of this profile, as tendon transfers. The result, as seen in the images that accompany the patient’s testimony, is a remarkable recovery of mobility and strength with regard to the starting point.
