The atlas adopts a practical approach, based on case studies from diverse clinical contexts. Internationally edited by the prestigious publisher Amolca, it defines a comprehensive guide for the diagnosis, treatment, and surgery of distal radius fractures through detailed analysis of specific examples.

Following the international editions in Chinese and English by Thieme in 2018, and Shanghai Scientific and Technical Publishers, marking a milestone in Spanish medical literature in the field of reparative traumatology, the book is now published in Spanish.

Since its publication, the book has become a mandatory reference for addressing distal radius fractures. It maintains a practical focus, grounded in case studies from various clinical scenarios, providing a comprehensive guide for diagnosis, treatment, and surgery based on the detailed analysis of specific cases.

Across nearly 400 pages, including 700 illustrations, intraoperative photographs, and 22 surgical videos commented on by Dr. Piñal, the book also addresses potential complications faced by hand and wrist surgeons in the operating room. The Spanish surgeon, microsurgeon, and reparative traumatologist emphasize avoiding common pitfalls and using precise techniques to optimize outcomes for each patient.

Directed at hand surgeons, orthopedists, plastic surgeons, and traumatologists, both specialists and subspecialists, ‘The Atlas of Distal Radius Fractures’ is the third book by Francisco del Piñal, preceded by ‘Management of Distal Radius Fractures by Arthroscopy’ and ‘Arthroscopic Treatment of Ulnar Pain,’ followed by ‘Distal Radius Fractures and Carpal Instabilities’ in 2019. These works add to his more than 500 publications and presentations at national and international congresses.

Born in 1960 in Santander, Dr. Francisco del Piñal is considered one of the world’s top hand surgeons. His contributions, such as microsurgical toe-to-hand transfers and arthroscopic surgery techniques in wrist fractures, are acknowledged and applied globally.

Among his notable achievements, he established principles for acute catastrophic hand reconstruction surgery and played a pivotal role in the development of wrist arthroscopy, including procedures like dry arthroscopy.

Currently, Francisco del Piñal directs Piñal and Associates clinics in Madrid and Santander, as well as the Hand Surgery and Microsurgery Unit at Vithas Madrid La Milagrosa Hospital.
